Emmet Cohen Trio
Live Outdoor Concert
The New York-based international jazz sensation and 2019 Winner of the coveted American Pianists Award will bring his trio back to our series after an absence of 10 years to play in the intimate art-filled Spanish Colonial baroque ambience of La Merced, continuing the “Baroque Jazz Club” inaugurated by Shelly Berg and Martin Bejerano last year. His recent set of recordings with 20th century jazz legends express Emmet’s bond with the jazz tradition, and have received world-wide support and acclaim.
Sunday, December 6 – 4pm
This Christmas with Daniella Mass
Live Music Drive-In
Multilingual soprano and America’s Got Talent semi-finalist Daniella Mass returns to Martha/Mary Concerts, with her quartet of musicians, to introduce her new album of holiday music. Those who experienced her performance last December with Nestor Torres know that every moment is enthralling when Daniella is on the stage.
Tickets are sold by car – in limited numbers – don’t wait to purchase as our October event sold out. In case of rain, the concert moves into the main church where social distancing seating is enforced plus face masks, hand disinfectant stations, and further precautions.
Sunday, October 18 – 4pm
Sammy Figueroa Quintet
All Star Jazz at our first Live Music Drive-In!
Double Grammy nominated percussionist Sammy Figueroa commemorates our very first Live Music Drive-In, with an all-star band including some of South Florida’s most brilliant musicians.
Haitian trumpeter Jean Caze is a star in his own right and tours the world as a member of Michael Bublé’s band. Pianist Martin Bejerano heads the Jazz Piano Department at the University of Miami Frost School of Music and is known for his work with Roy Haynes, Christian McBride and many others. Bassist Carlo DeRosa moved to Miami from New York a few years ago to teach at UM’s Frost School of Music and is considered one of the finest bass players in Latin jazz. Drummer Ludwig Afonso is a Yamaha artist and has been playing with Sammy for over ten years while also touring and recording with African superstar Richard Bona and Grammy nominated pianist Eldar Djangirov.
Sammy is well-known for both his musical virtuosity and his ebulliant stage presence. After twenty years as New York’s first-call percussionist, playing and recording with everyone from Miles Davis and David Bowie to Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, he moved to South Florida where he was inspired to become a leader in his own right. Sammy is also the host of the popular “The Sammy Figueroa Show” on Mondays on WDNA-FM and “Social Music with Sammy Figueroa” on Mixcloud Select.
